Radio Amateurs of Lebanon (RAL) celebrated today, November 21, 2009 its 57th anniversary at the RAL Headquarters in the presence of RAL members of guests.

OD5F - Sixième Jeux de la Francophonie événement spéciale: Station Radio Amateur

 Le Liban s'apprête à accueillir les VI Jeux de la Francophonie qui se tiendra à Beyrouth du 27 Septembre au 6 Octobre 2009. Les Radios Amateur Libanais (RAL) seront  present  pour cet événement spécial Station Radio Amateur "OD5F"

Les Jeux de la Francophonie ont lieu tous les 4 ans, avec la participation de 3.000 personnes, athlètes, des jeunes et des artistes venus de 56 pays s’exprimant en français et 14 pays observateurs.  C'est un sport populaire et un festival d'art.

OD5F - Sixth Francophone Games Amateur Radio Special Event Station

 Lebanon will be hosting the Sixth Francophone Games, which will be held in Beirut from 27th of September to 6th of October 2009. The Radio Amateur of Lebanon (RAL) will be sponsoring a special event Amateur Radio Station “OD5F” from September 26 till October 31, 2009 commemorating the event.

The Francophone games are held every 4 years, with the participation of 3,000+ athletes, youths and artists from 56 French speaking countries and 14 observer countries. It is a popular sports and art festival.

QSLs will be handled by the RAL QSL bureau. RAL will have a special QSL card for the event.

Dinner gathering hosted by OD5OT

 OD5OT - Hassan's vacation in Lebanon was crowned with a gathering at Maysoun Restaurant on July 28, 2009. Among the Hams and SWLs who responded to the invitation are: OD5ET - Joe, OD5HP - Amin, OD5KM - George, OD5KU - Elie, OD5OT - Hassan, OD5PN - Jamil, OD5TE - Hani, OD5QB - George, OD5TX - Michel, OD5YL - Louisette and Eddy (SWL). Pictures from the event are available in the RAL Photo Album. Hassan is back in Dubai and will be missed among us.

The 2009 Ham Radio at Friedrichshafen

The 2009 Ham Radio at Friedrichshafen, Germany, ended with official attendance figures at 17,400. RAL president OD5TE-Hani in his role as IARU Region 1 Executive committee member attended the Exhibition from June 26 to 28, 2009. The trip started with a stop in Zurich hosted by HB9JOE - Andy and HB9ELF - Yvonne that presented OD5TE with a Swiss callsign HB9ERL.

The trip included visits to HB9VC - Swissair Amateur Radio Club, HB5FE - Swiss Air Force Amateur Radio Club. HB9W meeting.

At the Ham Radio Exhibition in Friedrichshafen Dr. Larry Price - W4RA named President Emeritus of IARU and IARU Region 1 Monitoring System Coordinator DK2OM - Wolf received recognition for his outstanding contribution in the defense of the Amateur Radio spectrum.

IARU Region 1 Launches a new website

IARU R1 LogoOn the accasion of the World Amateur Radio Day, The International Amateur Radio Union Region 1 (IARU Region 1) unveiled a fully redesigned Homepage that offers a lot of functionalities and will allow various IARU Region 1 Working Groups to post and edit news.

The IARU Region 1 Homepage, also offers a forum  that brings the ham community together in discussions related to Amateur Radio.

Arab Societies secure a seat on the IARU R1 Executive Committee

OD5TEAt the 21st Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 1 General conference in Cavtat, Croatia, Arab member societies successfully secured a seat in the IARU Region 1 Executive Committee repressing 92 countries in Africa, Europe and the Middle East. OD5TE – Hani will be on the Executive committee for a 3 years term receiving the highest number of votes among other members. This would have not been possible without the extraordinary work done by the Arab Societies and especially of the participating delegates: 7X2RO – Afif, A41KB – Abdullah, A41LK – Fahd, A61M – Mohammed, DL1BDF – Mustafa, OD5RI - Riri, OD5TE – Hani, SU1KM – Mohamed, IARS Iraq (by Proxy).  Other member societies have endorsed OD5TE to be on the executive committee.

Total voting Societies including proxies were 50 and the final results were as follows:

Congratulations to all on such an achievement that was only possible when being aligned and working together. Radio Amateurs of Lebanon (RAL) Executive Committee and its members extends it sincere appreciation to the Arab Societies and the rest of IARU Region 1 society members for the trust and support given to its president, OD5TE – Hani to represent them on the IARU Region 1 Executive Committee.

Sun City, South Africa will host the next IARU Region 1 Conference in 2011.

 


OD5RI Elected as IARU R1 IPHA Coordinator

OD5RICongratulations are in order to OD5RI- Riri for being re-elected at the International ‎Amateur Radio Union Region 1 General Conference, as the Information Programme for ‎Handicapped Amateurs (IPHA) coordinator for the next 3 years.

We are proud of this achievement and wish Riri the best wishes and success as the IPHA ‎coordinator and looking forward for the Arab Amateur Radio Societies to have an active role ‎in the program and support Riri in his task. ‎
